Atmos and Portal

Atmos and Portal

Portal: The Portal is a gateway to another dimension where total chaos reigns. It is easy to open. It is very easy to let life be consumed by chaos.

Atmos: The world is falling apart, chaos prevails. It symbolizes my thoughts and how I view the world now—there is no order, almost no peace. The world is small, the universe is so vast. How is it that it is so quiet there, but so loud here?

Both works complement each other, flowing seamlessly from one to the next. They were created with a zero budget, using only found materials during an art summer residency in an abandoned school. I used items like condoms, old paper, glass, metal shavings, sand, and drywall, along with leftover paint I discovered there.

Time

Time

Old cards from former students, forgotten by time. These cards, dating back over 70 to 100 years, hold a tangible connection to the past. Like the chairs that were photographed, they were left behind in the attic of the old Technicum in Sint-Truiden, covered under layers of bird droppings and cobwebs. The chairs partly symbolize the places left behind by the students, but they were also photographed in a space the students have never seen and will never see.
